Children's Eye Exams

Healthy eyes and proper vision are important to a child’s learning and development.

Children’s eyes grow and change very quickly, and there many important milestones in a child’s life that are impacted by their vision.

It’s important that children have routine eye exams to catch eye problems early so they can be treated, such as lazy eye, colour deficiencies, and near- and farsightedness.

How often should my child have an eye exam?

  • First exam should be between 6 and 9 months old
  • At least one exam at 3 years old
  • Yearly eye exams from 3 to 19 years old

Covered by OHIP

Patients under the age of 19 are covered for a yearly eye examination by the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP).
