Children’s eyes grow and change very quickly, and there many important milestones in a child’s life that are impacted by their vision.
It’s important that children have routine eye exams to catch eye problems early so they can be treated, such as lazy eye, colour deficiencies, and near- and farsightedness.
How often should my child have an eye exam?
First exam should be between 6 and 9 months old
At least one exam between 2 and 5 years old
Yearly eye exams between 6 and 19 years old
Don’t forget: children under the age of 19 have their eye exams covered by OHIP.
Patients who are under 19 are covered by the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP). Ask your doctors if you have any questions.
